“We can trust Brownrigg. He has proven to be a capable listener, who gathers information and acts in the public’s best interest... Brownrigg is a deep thinker who built his tool box of problem solving over time as a diplomat, a businessman and a member of a City Council and Planning Commission. He is committed to engaging with constituents to find the best solution together in a transparent way and he will be a fighter when it comes to the environment. He is also someone we can trust to listen and represent us in Sacramento.”
UNMATCHED EXPERIENCE AND PROVEN RESULTS
Experience and results matter. Michael Brownrigg is the only candidate for State Senator with a proven record of leadership, bringing people together and delivering results on the toughest issues facing Peninsula families today. He gets it, and he’ll get it done in Sacramento, as our state Senator.
Mike got it done for his community in the fight against climate change by issuing green bonds to reduce carbon emissions and strengthening infrastructure to protect the Bay from pollution. He helped build bike lanes, installed new electric vehicle chargers, and launched innovative waste reduction and sea level rise adaptation strategies.
And he’s delivering solutions and getting it done on one the Peninsula’s most pressing problems — affordability — by ensuring more affordable housing options are available to our seniors, and helping retain teachers, nurses, firefighters and to keep working families – and our kids -- in our communities.
Mike’s getting it done by protecting children and families by standing up to the NRA and Big Tobacco. As a leader on the Council, Mike helped pass the toughest gun safety law in his city’s history and one of the country’s strictest anti-vaping bans to keep big tobacco from hooking our kids.
Mike will put his unmatched record of 30 years of local, national and international experience to work for a brighter future for all our families in the State Senate. That’s why he’s endorsed by the Central County Firefighters Association and over 600 community endorsers from around the district.
Mike gets it and he’ll keep getting it done on the issues that matter most to our families, from protecting a woman’s Constitutionally guaranteed right to choose to climate change and affordability for seniors and working families, to tough gun safety legislation, and reforming our criminal justice system.
Experience and results matter. Vote Democrat Mike Brownrigg for State Senate. He Gets It. And He Gets It Done.
Mike is two term Mayor and a 10-year Councilmember, who brings an unmatched 30-year record of local, national and international diplomatic experience to the race for state senate. His career has been devoted to public service and get-it-done leadership.
Mike was born and raised in the district. He’s seen the Peninsula evolve and knows what makes it special — and what it takes to keep it that way. He grew up in Los Altos Hills and attended Fremont Hills Elementary, Terman Middle School and Gunn High School.
In Mike’s senior year in high school, his grandfather fell ill. Mike moved in with his ailing Grandfather so he could age in place, and Mike helped care for him until the day he died. From then on, Mike knew he wanted to live a life that makes a difference in people’s lives. And he has.

After earning degrees in Economics and German from Williams College, Mike committed himself to public service. He worked as a Democratic congressional aide for U.S. Rep. Howard Berman (D-CA) and then went into the Foreign Service, serving as a diplomat under Democratic and Republican presidents, including serving on the Clinton Transition team at the State Department. He won distinguished service medals for service in Syria and Hong Kong and helped negotiate international agreements in Europe, the Middle East and Asia serving as a nonpartisan diplomat under three administrations.
In 1990 Mike married Marty, a pediatrician, and came home to the Peninsula where they’re raising their four kids. Since then, Mike has been a coach and community volunteer, and he’s helped lead his community forward on the Planning Commission, the City Council, and two terms as Mayor.
